The Pilot Project, designed by Microsoft, TracFone and Health Choice, is made to experiment with the idea that smartphone can lower costs and manage chronic conditions with better health outcomes. This pilot will address underserved populations, such as Medicaid.
A Nokia Lumina 520 handset will be distributed to 100 Medicaid diabetic patients from Health Choice Network in Miami. The goal is to use the smartphone to assist in management of their diabetes. The phones will include the software necessary for patients to update their personal health record on HealthVault and communicate with the care team via Office 365. TrackFone, America’s largest no contract cellular service provider, will provide the pre-paid services.
